Welcome to rootschat hamali ;D

Can you tell us a bit more please?  Where was the ship destined for?  What was its port  of origin- ie where did your relation's mother board the ship?

If you felt you can tell us the name of the person you are trying to trace then maybe that along with the info will mean someone can help.

Hi Alison, Sounds as if it was a Bristih ship.

I don't know what the rules were about registering a birth under those circs.

Someone will come online who knows to look...maybe it is in Consular births but that's a wild guess.
Sorry not to be able to be more helpful.

http://www.reach.net/~sc001198/ShipsPQR1a.htm

From what I can gather from the link above and others: the ship was launched in 1839 and was used by the East India Company.  The link indicates that the vessel sailed to Calcutta in 1839.  Other sources show that British Army soldiers died on board on a return voyage to England in 1841, but don't say where it was coming from.  I'll carry on searching and see if I can find any more background.

Regards

David
