Hi. I.ve just been doing a bit of research  on Billing Road cemetry as I have relatives buried there .And i was visiting there yesterday to find our grave which was very overgrown with ivy but had the most fantastic tree growing over it .After reading some of your replies as to the whereabouts of Mabels grave it sounds in exactly the same location as ours up on the left just inside the main gates and i.m sure i remember seeing someone who had died aged 33 years old whilst searching for ours .If you would like i can take a photo if it does turn out to be the grave you are looking for and email it to you regards .larraine

Morning

Thank you for the offer, Seahall did kindly  send me a couple of photo's of the resting place  but there was no headstone.  Reading about the history of Billing Road on this forum about being bombed etc. it is possible if there was one it could have been moved.

So yes it's worth a try but only when you are that way again.

Thanks

Hi Larrine.

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

It is nice of you to offer to take a photograph of the grave for Ridgeback/David.

I did send some by e-mail of the area to Ridgeback/David after he
requested them and can assure you there is no grave/headstone for the
grave no. Ridgeback/David gave us.

I do have a list of all the remaining graves and Mabel James and family isn't
one of them.

Hi Sandy thank you for the info .Havent been back to the cemetery  yet  but as you have checked there is no  headstone it may have been bombed as I know that a lot of them were damaged this way or vandalised .We were going to look to see if there is a statue of a white horse as many years ago there was one belonging to someone who was buried there from Billy Smarts Circus .Also to see Caroline Chisholm.s grave as friends of mine.s children go to the Caroline Chisholme school. Regards Larraine .

Hi Larraine.  :)

The bombed area of the Cemetery was much further over, it hit
most of the WW1 and 2 graves (please correct me if that is in-correct anyone).

A notice used to be placed in the Local Paper announcing the intention to remove
gravestone/headstones and to allow any person owning them to object.

I remember hearing about the White Horse also.

Caroline Chisholm's grave had been attacked recently, yet I think it is okay now.

Hi again Larraine.

I managed to find the print of the Cemetery at the
time of the bombing.

Hi Sandy. Many thanks for the photograph .Its amazing to see the amount of graves ,  as now it is more like a park where people go to walk their dogs . Weather permitting ! I shall try to go to the cemetery this weekend and have a look to see what is still standing .kind regards Larraine.
