occupation "plain work" ???

Have found an occupation listed in the 1851 census (Deal, Kent) as "plain work". Do you know what this means? the lady was 31 years old and the census record was marked that she was deaf and dumb.

Hi

As far as I'm aware 'plain work' referred to plain sewing.
