MATTHEWS Mary Ann and Nathaniel Charles

Nathaniel Charles MATTHEWS husband of Mary Ann MATTHEWS (nee POTTER)
I have a death certificate for Mary Ann MATTHEWS 4/5/1914 in Northcote age 75, Melbourne, but cannot find any record of her husband's death at Victorian BDM.
If he was still alive when she died he would have been 79, but I suspect he would have predeceased her.  
Is it possible for him to have died in Victoria, and no death certificate made?
What would be reasons I cannot find one for him?

He is by himself on  the 1914 Electorl Roll in  Northcote  but  not showing on  the 1919 or afterwards.

Looking for a burial place for Mary I   found Mary buried with a Charles

MATTHEWS  Chas died aged 88 in 1915 at Ncote reg no 10616
father Hy Matthews mother unknown


They are buried together in Coburg cemtery
Church of England Compartment: B Grave No: 118. http://www.fcmp.com.au/deceasedsearch.asp

So  could  this be  Nathaniel Charles Matthews?

I have a death certificate for Mary Ann MATTHEWS (nee POTTER) who died 4 May 1914 and was buried 6 May 1914 at Coburg Cemetery, so I would be pretty sure that was them.  The information you have supplied is excellent, many thanks, now I have a pretty good idea of when and where he died, and can have another go at bdm victoria.

tropical j .... have just searched Victorian bdm and found death certificate for Nathaniel Charles MATTHEWS. (he was registered as Chas MATTHEWS which was why I didn't find him at first, and he was 88 years old, a good age for those days.  He was on an Imperial Navy Pension and his father Henry was a missionary, so I can probably round up some more info on him.
