Kranji War memorial
« on: Wednesday 24 June 09 15:33 BST (UK) »
I will be spending a short time in Singapore next week.

While I am there my time will not be my own but I am hoping to fit in a visit to Kranji to take a few pictures.

I can make no promises but if anyone would like any particular photo taking them please PM me with the reference and I'll see what I can do.

Rog

I was fortunate to go there earlier this year, when I was on a holiday stopover.  I only had a few hours to get there and hopefully find my man.  He was Wilfred Collins, who was my grandmother’s first husband, and although I was not directly related to him.  Somehow I thought it was opportunity I shouldn’t miss.

I was lucky and found Wilf.  He was a flight sergeant on an RAF Mark VI Liberator of 203 Squadron, which was shot down on 20th March 1945 over the Sumatra.   Of the ten airmen, three men made it to shore,  two were captured and taken as POW’s, and the other airman died on the beach.  The remaining seven were never found, including Wilf.

Sometimes I think if this hadn’t of happened my grandmother would have never remarried, subsequently had my father, and I wouldn’t have existed - weird!  ???

Anyway I took a few photos around the cemetery, and after reading your post here they are.. ( and hopefully they are the right size, had a few problems in the past!)  :)

Thanks for that, Trippy.

Did you by any chance photograph any of the adjacent names?  It is "Cotton" (684 Squadron) in whom I am interested.

Hello Chris

I have looked though all my photos and can't find your man.  Sorry  :(

At the back of Kranji there are 24 walls, each with the names of the serviceman who died and were sadly not found. The photos I have are only of one wall of the memorial.

Any I have attach the photo of the whole wall you can make out the names if you zoom in, but liked I said I couldn't see him.

If you want me to email you the photo, just send me a PM

Best Wishes Trippy
