Job’s Yard in Kettering
« on: Friday 26 June 09 22:42 BST (UK) »
An ancestor of mine is recorded as living the last few years of his life at Job's Yard in Kettering.

Does anyone have an image/print/old photo or whatever they are happy to share with me.

Thanks.

I am happy to reciprocate with images from Berks/Hants/Wilts.

Hi Sotonian

Have you tried contacting one of the local newspapers in Kettering, to see if they can help ;)

Hi All.

Sotonian although I was born in Kettering and return often I do not
have any photographs of the area in my collection. :(.

My father had a small shoe factory in Ebenezeer's Place nearby.

Good suggestion of Ricky's.

Also you may like to try the Kettering Library.

The newspapers would have been the Kettering Telegraph and
Kettering Leader plus others.

This links to them.

Jobs Yard runs parallel with Dryland Street, which was formerly known as Workhouse Lane. Jobs Yard was thus at the back of the Poor Law Union Institution.

Dont know if this any help.
Taken from A HISTORY OF KETTERING: R GREENALL

in 1868 Kettering suffered a big fire, nobody was killed but it destroyed 2 acres of buildings and Jobs Yard was destroyed.

This could be why there are no photos etc.
I have noticed on a map of 1899 Jobs Yard is labelled.
I live in Kettering and the area we speak of is having 45 0ne/ two bedroom apartments being built on it. There is nothing left of the old Yard.
It did have car repair place on it until few years ago.
Try contacting the library.
Hope this helps.

Hi

My family lived on Job's Yard, Clara Mabelson (nee Dixon) and several other Mabelson family members.  Here are some photos.

Thanks
