Walter Sydney LEWIN - Who were you!!
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 04:05 BST (UK) »
Dear fellow searchers..

I am looking for any information on my mysterious G Grandfather

WALTER SYDNEY LEWIN (Born: 9/1/1856 in Sydney) was the youngest son of Edward and Emma Ann Lewin.  He lived in Tempe in 1919 and had a son Raymond Lewin in 1907 and was listed as an accountant. Walter married Edith Sisson (mother of Raymond)  in 1917.  Walter died in 1920 in Sydney.

I am looking for any clues of his life.. (he wasn't always correct with dates!!) All I have are these bare facts? There has to be more!!
Beatty - Rathfriland, Ireland, Beattie - Sydney, Australia, Lewin - UK, Australia, Henderson - Scotland/Australia, Winter- Germany/Australia, Leverton - Devon/Australia, Smith, Sisson, Barr - Ireland/Australia, Hayes - Ireland/Australia, Forbes - Scotland/Newcastle, Australia

Hi,
There are some addresses available for one Edward LEWIN.
He may or may not be the father EDWARD you mention.
I can type them if you are interested.

There is also one address available for one WALTER LEWIN in 1915
He may or may not be yours
WALTER LEWIN . 11 Fisher's Reserve, Petersham.

There is a digitised record of ww1 service for the brother of EDITH MAY SISSON which lists her as next of kin in 1918. He is HORACE GREAVES SISSON  a draper and a widower with one child.  He appears to live with her.
She lives then at "Glenowie" Union Street TEMPE.

Sue

Hi Sue..
Thanks for the information.  I have been able to find alot of information about Edward (funny isn't it the further away they are in time it can be easier).  I hadn't found the information on Horace.. (he was Ediths brother) so that is another puzzle piece for her.
I am not sure if the petersham address was our Walter Lewin (there seems to be two of them)  I might try the council archives..
Thanks again for your input!
cheers

Yes, It is tricky as both have the second initial S.

The other WALTER Sinclair LEWIN died in 1966 at Wyong.

I can't help you put 'meat on the bones' for Walter Sydney LEWIN.   I don't see a baptism or birth registration for Walter Sydney LEWIN but these are other births/baptisms to an Edward and Emma LEWIN

V1843122 27A/1843  LEWIN  Alice
V1843123 27A/1843  LEWIN  Alice

V1845850 30A/1845 LEWIN  Louisa

V1847350 33A/1847 LEWIN  Janettaa

V18501260 35/1850 LEWIN Charles J
V18501280 35/1850 LEWIN Charles J

V18533201 39A/1853 LEWIN Albert A

Headstone inscriptions at Rookwood Cemetery

LEWIN Emma Ann 16 Apr 1874 37 years Grave as above Mother of above
[I think the age has been mistranscribed - perhaps it should be 57 years - her husband Edward died 1876 aged 63.  Perhaps the inscription was difficult to read]

LEWIN Edward Thomas  25 Aug 1874 36 years  Grave as above
Son of above. Late Doctor of the ship "Peterborough"

LEWIN Edward  15 Jun 1876  63 years  Grave as above
