NSW Marriage
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 19:41 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for the marriage in NSW for Fred SWINNERTON to Rose Mary BOWLEY.
They arrived in Sydney in 1912, so the marriage I assume would be some time
shortly after this.

Thanks
Swinno.

Dear Swinno,
I have checked from 1910-1940 on the NSW BDM site under Swinnerton and Bowley and they don't seem to be there. There possibly is a spelling error, or perhaps they had already married or married in another state.

Here is the link for NSW BDM

Hi Siouxsie,

Yeah I had checked that site before and could not find them.  I wondered if I was
doing something wrong.  As far as I know they stayed in NSW for the rest of their natural.

Thanks
swinno.

Dear Swinno,

Maybe they were married before they arrived???? (Or on board ship perhaps)

If you want to give the NSW BDM site a real workout you could try multiple spelling variations on their names!  ;D ;D

Just did a check on the QLD BDM with no result.

Hi Siouxsie,

When they left London in Dec 1911 they were not married.
So yes possible they married on board the ship Ballarat on the
voyage to Australia.
I just checked the link you sent, but no result either.  In 1914
when Fred Swinnerton enlisted it states that he is married.

Swinno.

Dear Swinno,
Just checked the NSW BDM again, with just Fred and Rose and Frederick and Rose for the period 1910-1920, but nothing even close to their surnames.

Where did the Ballarat land in Oz? Did it stop off anywhere else perhaps?

I don't know how shipboard marriages are entered into the BDM system......maybe another Rootschatter has some further clues.

Cheers
