decipher writing and military term help WW1 U.S.

Hi...this is a gr gr uncle....he was born in 1893 or 1894 and he would have served in ww1.  Does that look right.  Also the writing on the back...is that "CoB."?  What does that mean...company B?  Restorations welcome!  Thank you!

A history of the 47th Infantry is available free online via Google Books. It covers the regiment's WWI years. You'll find it easily if you do a Google search for

"Forty seventh Infantry" and "James E. Pollard"

Hi Topham,

If you would like a restoration, post a request on the Photographic Restoration and Dating board either with a link to this posting or by reposting the photograph there.  If you do that you will have to change the name of the file slightly as the system will not allow two photo files with the same name anywhere on the site.
