Help with place name on census

I think the place name starts with J

Sorry - the 'S' on son and their surname, transcribed as Sheers is different to the place name.

But if you look at how the word 'son' is written in the relationship column on this and other pages - the 's' has been formed in several different ways. There's doesn't seem to be a standard form.

Agreed, but this guy isn't very consistent about any of his letters!

thats just part of the problem - if he collected the schedules and copied into his Enumerators book, by the time he got to this one (depending on whether they or he filled in the schedule) it could be anyones guess ......

It's very difficult. I think it ends in 'rin'  but, for starters, there's no J in the Welsh language so I think it starts with I.  Place names migt be different as there would be English named places but in this case I don't see it as J.

I'm from North Wales originally, Jennifer, and I'm not up on the southern place names.  It's definitely not Swansea (see  Swansea further down the page).

It could be Lwanrin or Iwanrin or Lwanvin/Iwanvin    - not sure because it should be an f if it's a v - but they did used v for f in those days.  If it is Lw, it would be pronounced Loo or Lu and I'm sure it would sound better if it was Llw. If it starts with I. it would be more likely to be Ia rather than Iw
