James JOHNSON in Australia

I'm looking for information on James Johnston b. 10/01/1868 monquitter aberdeen, his parents were william johnston and jessie milne. I think he went to Victoria and married Mary Jane Reiger 1895. She was born in 1871 and died I think 1959. The children listed for them were Alexander John 1897-1984
Albert David 1900-1972
Alice 1903-1995.
I think the area they they lived in was Ferndale Victoria, if the information found is the same as mine it will confirm I have the correct family.

Can only  confirm  the information  you  have unless we find a death for James Johnston with matching parents.

Marriage was in 1895 he was born Aberdeen and she in Murgrave Victoria
reg no 952 but her name was Mary Jane RIEGER

I  have struck a problem

Mary Jane JOHNSTON is buried at Springvale Botanical Cemetery
in the Joshua Jordan Lawn Grave Row O grave 62 she was buried 6/5/1959

in  the same grave is James JOHNSTON buried 13/7/1936


Now  there are two  deaths for James JOHNSTON in 1936

but neither with the parents names you have given us.

James Johnston died at Springvale  aged  85 in 1936 reg no 18197
father James Johnston mother Helen Winton SMITH

James Johnston died at Cheltnm aged 71 in 1936  reg no 5235
father James Johnston mother Jane McLelland.

There was a possibility it wasn't the correct James Johnston, it was a match in my tree on Ancestry, althiugh they had the correct parents. Thanks for trying it's much appreciated I looked again at you post the children are correct as well.

Perhaps if you  post on  the Scotland board  you  might get  help  there if he was on later census etc.

Hmmm - interesting.

IGI has a James JOHNSTON born 19 Dec 1850 and baptised 19 Jan 1851 at Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland with parents James JOHNSTON and Helen SMITH.  This matches one of the JJs died 1936 found by Jenn.  Methinks the match you had is slightly out!

The marriage certificate for James and Mary Jane should give parent names.  You can download from the Victorian BMD site.

Death Notice The Argus (Melbourne paper) Monday, July 13, 1936

JOHNSTON - On the 11 July at his residence Ferntree Gully Rd, Wheeler's Hill, James, dearly beloved husband of Mary Jane Johnston and loving father of Alexander, Albert and Alice, aged 85 years.

The funeral notice is very difficult to read but appears to be on the same day and to the Necropolis Springvale.

So it would seem that this James Johnston is the one on IGI -James JOHNSTON born 19 Dec 1850 and baptised 19 Jan 1851 at Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland with parents James JOHNSTON and Helen SMITH.
