Researchers needed - Tasmanian convicts
« on: Wednesday 01 July 09 00:19 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

There is a very interesting research program commencing, mainly involving research on convicts to Tasmania.   For details see http://www.foundersandsurvivors.org/

To quote from the website  "Founders & Survivors will become one of the world’s great historical studies of immigration, forced labour and settlement. It will eventually follow convict founders and their descendants over five generations and build a unique portrait of modern Australian society in the making.

The organising team invite you to join this first stage of our quest—to find Australia’s Founders and Survivors and submit a convict you have researched.

They are looking for family historians to contribute ‘their convicts’ and are also looking for volunteers to follow public records, like the Police Gazettes and the various Pioneers Indexes, to find the deaths of those convicts who did not establish families, or whose families died out.

We know that there are many people in the community who are very skilled at family history research and we are keen to draw you into this national enterprise. The work to be done is probably endless and will keep us all occupied at our PCs for years to come."

Very interesting, Andcarred!
I shall have a good browse of the whole website and see if there is any way I can help. I don't personally have a Tasmanian convict in my tree, but I have researched an Aunt's husband's tree for him, and have quite a lot of info about his Tasmanian convict ancestor. I'll need to check with them before I share the information.

Yes it is very interesting.

I`m pretty hopeless at family researching but have a few details on my six Tasmanian direct line convict ancestors.
I will see what information that is needed. I may be able to help.

I ran a check on that ip, I can see why it's banned.

However I gave no idea why it effects us or the site
