St Hamlie Cornwall
« on: Saturday 26 February 05 10:42 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone helop me identify where this place is please

In the 1851 census the person I am reserching namely William Mutton was living in Devon with his wife and family.  He said he was aged 40 from St Hamlie Con.

That would make his birth about 1811. I cant find St Hamlie can anyone give me advice on whether this place exists?
Many thanks

It is probably to do with the way they do speak down yer in the West Country. I came across an entry that said the chap was born in Marble Lamb Devon. We all tried our best Devon accents and laughed when we discovered it was most likely to be Morwellham as he was a miner.

Try saying St Hamlie in different ways and you may get there.
