General question on the Passenger list Indexes Victoria
« on: Saturday 04 July 09 03:24 BST (UK) »
Hi

I hope this does not sound like a dumb question - but I have been looking @ my  CD Index  Immigration To Vic 1852 - 1879 & I think I my have found a couple of entries on the ship the " Lord Raglan"..

These entries are listed next to each other so my question is does that mean that they travelled next to each other ???????? etc or were travelling companions.

The names are Mr Ffrench & Mrs Richmond - Nov 1860 - both listed A - Code B - Fiche 183 - page 006.

Once again I apologise if this really sounds like a silly question.

Thanks - a very intrigued Troods

I  would say it would be hard  to  know  that because  when  you  look at  provic  there are a number of people on  page 6.  You  would have to actually  look at  the records.

Do you  think  they travelled together?

Thanks Jenn -
Yes I think they did. Matilda Richmond  supposedly married a Christopher Ffrench & had a son Charles Ffrench in Vic. I have the little boy Charles's  death cert 1870 in Vic. Charles was approx born 1862 in Vic but I have found no record for him yet.(birth that is)
Sorry if this sounds confusing . lol perhaps it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Troods the name of the mother on the index for the 1870 death of Charles FFRENCH is Matilda PITT.  Is this the death to which you are referring?  Perhaps that is her maiden name :-\  I think I may have searched for this before...the name rings a bell...or perhaps I just read it on the forum.

I have searched using just Charles with mother Matilda, nothing.

Cheers

Sorry Cando -
Yes thats the same lady, Matilda used quite a few names through out her lifetime. Pitt/Richmond/Ffrench/Hazelwood/Pemberton. Richmond was a previous marriage name.
I think you did help before in regards to this family.
I too have had no luck finding Charles birth entry, maybe he was not registered.
Thanks again girls for your help and thoughts.

You have probably seen this?

On the fiche 183 PROV for the Lord Raglan shows
Cabin Passengers:

475 Mr Ffrench
476 Mrs Richmond
376 Mrs Blythe - this has been crossed out
       Miss 'do'

So unsure if the Miss Ditto's surname is meant to be Blythe or Richmond.  The numbers apear to be some kind of reference number usd by the ship so my guess is that Mr F and Mrs R made their bookings very close together.

This is all on page 11 as the fiche I am looking at only seems to have oddnumbered pages i.e. there is no page 6, however, it is the 6th page of the record!

What info re his parents did it give on the death cert?  I'm happy to see if there was a death notice for him in The Argus but would need the actual date of death.  Won't be back at the library till late next week though.
