Mary Ann Williams - 1868 - 1899 - census info required
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 08:36 BST (UK) »
I have Mary Ann Williams - aged 3 - living with her parents David and Jane Williams at 6 Cross Street in Maesteg in the 1871 census. Ref: RG10, Piece 5412, Folio 76, Page 26.
In 1881 her parents remain at the address
In 1891 they are at 15 Station Street
In 1901 they are at 12 Princes Street.

Local parish burials show a Catherine Williams being buried in Mar 1900 (address 12 Princess Street) - one of David and Jane's daughters
Records also show burial of Mary Ann Williams in 1899 aged 31 - address 12 Princess Street.

What happened to her in between?

I've had a look at the 1881 and can see 2 Mary A Williams born in 1868 in Maesteg area
One is a servant - RG11 5327 58 45 - Bethania St Cwmdu
One is a pupil at a blind school in Swansea - RG11 5358 8 9
Any ideas how I can determine - which - if any - of the above individuals are mine?

The 1871 census for the family at 6 Cross St does not indicate that she was blind at age 3 - but I suppose something could have been missed or happened after.
Or she could be the servant and there is another 3 year old who is blind in 1871!

What I'd give for an easy surname!!
Jones, Davies, Evans, Williams, Daniel, Thomas - Glamorgan

Hello,
I feel as though I am contradicting myself here:

the 1881 servant is in Cwmdu which is the same civil parish as Maesteg so that is favourable.

Then there is this:

1891 RG12; Piece: 4450; Folio 24; Page 44
53 Rock Street Cwmdu

Ann Evans 69 yrs shopkeeper general
Mary Ann William grandaughter 23 yrs b Maesteg blind from 3 1/2 yrs
her place of birth has been transcribed as Marrley

does this help at all?

Thanks - thats great.

I know that Jane's maiden name before she married David Williams was Evans and her fathers name was John, but i've never managed to get any further - so this gives be another angle to track.

Thanks again.

Ok - i've found 1881 Ann Evans at same address
1871 - John and Ann Evans - same street different number
1861 - John and Ann Evans with a daughter - Jane
Looks a good match
