Hello Isobell ,
Thank you , thats a bit of background to go on . I am not sure if I am on right track though . There is a Lewis G Watts marriage to an Ellen Prout in Bristol in 1945 . My great gran was a Ellen Prout born 1879 . Before I send off for marriage cert  I was hoping to find pro's and con's of doing so given there supposed ages . This would mean Ellen aged 66 and Lewis 63 if correct ?
I am wishing it to be correct as I can't find Ellen since 1912 in Bridgewater .

There is a marriage for Lewis Grantley Watts in 1907 Bristol Dec qu 6a 273.Maybe the 1945 marriage was his son.If your gran was born 1879 it sounds like a second marriage in 1945

There is a medal card for a Lewis G Watts Glouc Regiment Private 31827 on Ancestry.Maybe you could find his army records to find out more

I think you should look at freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl where you will find his birth registered.  You need the b-cert before searching back in time.
