Rahoon is a Parish- according to www.thecore.com/seanruad part of Galway town is in Rahoon Parish.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi
Yes, actually spotted the Griffiths Valuation too, and it could be that St Helenas on the IHF is actually referring to St Helens St Galway.  At that time, it would have been part of the Rahoon parish.
At least now you have a location for the family -  hopefully they got married in that area, but it depends where Margaret's family were from, as the wedding was usually in the bride's parish.

Hi Lucy,
On all documentation I have for Margaret, it just simply states - Galway as place of birth.
Not much help really!!

There is a birth for a Margaret Connelly in the Rahoon area in 1834 - father Thomas, on the IFHF site.  It would cost to view, and maybe it couldn't be her as she would be very young (14) to get married.  Maybe possible in those days though?
It might be her, and if so the marriage should be locatable through Church records in the area.

Good Morning Lucy,
That's looking good because her father was Thomas as noted on her second marriage, however, there is a 2 year gap with the information I have -
On her second marriage cert in 1858, it states her age as 26 - (ie born 1832)
On her death cert in 1922, her age is 90 - (ie born 1832)
and on the birth cert of her 5th child, she was 25 in 1857 - (ie born 1832)
SO - I guess we have to go with 1832 as her correct birth date.

Hello Shakel

You have Margaret's mothers name as Mary Ann Kenny.  Is this from a birth certificate, or from the second Marriage certificate?

In  Ireland I think at that time only the bride and groom's father's names were on the marriage certificates.

Not all parish records are on line with IFHF.  And civil reg didn't start until 1864.

Also, I checked for a marriage in Patrick Noonan's name for 1834, and nothing is coming up.  So that 1834 one may not be them.

If I can think of anything else to try I will let you know.

Best wishes

Hi Lucy,
Margaret's mother's name - Mary Ann ?enny (I thought it was Kenny) was on her 2nd marriage certificate. Father's name was Thomas Connolly - proffession - Baker or Balker, which I found out was a "look out post who stood on the headlands and let the town know when the ships were coming" Don't know how accurate that description is, though. I think, Baker is more accurate.
On her death certificate it states she was married at the age of 16 - which would make it -1848.
Really appreciate your help, Lucy.

Hello Shakel

I couldn't resist checking out that birth certificate on IFHF for Margaret 1834.
Alas, wrong mother.  Mother was a Catherine Wall, so that was disappointing!

The marriage is definitely recorded in one of the local parishes I would say. I will try to think of how to find it.

Did Patrick and Margaret have any other children born in Ireland before emigrating?

If you could scan in Margaret's mother's name in might be helpful to have a look at it.  If you are unsure of Kenny, it could be Kearny or something similar, even Conroy?  Her birth place may give her marriage location.

(having internet connection problems at the moment, hope this computer keeps going!)
