Thanks for the answers alibongo  :) Still little to be found on mother Maria as yet  :-\

Yes, the statutory record of births is the birth certificate for Elvira, available to view on line at Scotlands People.

Where did Elvira marry?

Sorry - dont know where or if Elvira did marry for certain just that she was 'with' Harold until he committed suicide and then met and was apparently very happy with George.

Just checked notes from elderly reli who states that 'Elvira was born in Edinburgh and Maria was also from Scotland' don't suppose that helps much really!

Not so sure about the Maria being born in Scotland, nothing shows for births under any of those first names you have for her.

Regarding Elvira's birth in 1902, who reported the death and at what address was Elvira born?

Elvira was born at 150 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh.
Do you mean who reported birth?  Both mother and father have signed the record.

Just checked the 1901 census for the address. No clues there from the names. There are at least 36 entries showing at that address, so multiple occupancy. The address shows as Edinburgh Morningside although it looks the birth was registered at Newington.

Sorry, remembered after I asked the question  :P Both Maria and Venancio would have had to register Elvira's birth in order for her to have been registered under father's surname.

Going round in circles unfortunately without any more info  :-\ The closest I can see in Scotland for a family of the status of 'landed proprietor' is through just one birth entry for a Eva Mostyn-Walker on 21 SEP 1872 Balquhidder, Perth.

Parents show as:

Hon. Georgiana Louisa Mary NOEL-HILL, died 1854 Mar 23; married 1845 Jul 22, Capt. Francis MOSTYN-OWEN.

    1s. Georgina Harriet MOSTYN-OWEN; married 1871, Henry WALKER (born 1826, died 1911 Dec 13).

1t. Henry Francis Mostyn WALKER, born 1880.

        2t. Eva M. WALKER, born 1872/73.

        3t. Florence G. M. WALKER, born 1881/82.

        4t. Catherine E. M. WALKER, born 1884/85.

I'm stuck now  ;D

Thanks for your help anyway - looks like its back to the drawing board - will have to write to old reli abroad and hope she can throw more light on this and perhaps get back to you.

If anything else springs to mind I'd be pleased to hear.

Thanks again.

It's always hard trying to link back without the bits in the middle! Anything that you can find about Elvira that you can then use to verify and take steps back to her mother will help.

As you can see, we are struggling to find anything on mother (or Elvira) at present, nothing quite fits. If there are any Irish connections, the records we are looking at the moment will be no use at all.

Lets see if something new comes up  :)
