I have a copy of these items from the Carickmacross courts. I took them to the National Archives in Dublin and they thought they were a red herring. I am not entirely convinced but the people from FIBIS (Families in British India Society) think that he may well have been born in India and that his father William was possibly a soldier with the East India Companies army. I may never know the answer but as more information comes onto the net, you never know.
