Help with Jersey Marriage
« on: Monday 13 July 09 20:22 BST (UK) »
Hi Can anyone help?
I am helping a friend with their family history research and am trying to find details of a Jersey marriage between 1889 and 1890. The people in question are Edgar James Beale (often goes by James Beale) and  a Louisa. Louisa was formerly Louisa Elizabeth Chick but may have married before this marriage and could be Louisa Pearce. The date of the marriage has been obtained from the 1911 census.

Would really appreciate any help

Thanks

Jane

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Sorry - can't help with the marriage query

Don't know whether you already have this info but here goes

in 1891 they are mis-transcribed as Berle and all b England

James Beale looks like 31 - mariner
Louisa 28
Bertie  8 (shown as Beale)
RG12 Piece 4694 Folio 107 Page 3
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
Carlin (Ireland & Liverpool) Doughty & Wright (Liverpool) Dick & Park (Scotland & Liverpool)

thanks very much. we didn't have the census information but this is a help. It puts them in Jersey one or two years after their suspected marriage. This is new information. We knew that their next child Rose was born in Jersey in 1892 (although we dont have the birth record). In the next census they are back living in Weymouth and Bertie has gone off to join the Navy.

We had trouble finding the birth record for Bertie Beale and recently have found that he seems to have been born Edward Bertie Chick. This fits as there is another birth certificate for an Elsie Beale (child) which names the mother as Louisa Elizabeth Beale formerly Chick.

Problem is that it appears that Louisa Elizabeth Chick married Arthur Pearce in 1883 in Weymouth. This was a year after Bertie was born! The Beale and Chick families lived next door to each other in Weymouth and it is our assumption that Arthur Pearce either died or that Louisa left him to be with James (Edgar) Beale in Jersey. Bertie who was actually a Chick was then described as a Beale (It is of course entirely possible that James Edgar Beale could even have been Berties un named father!

All very complicated!

Anyway thanks again

Just to add to the mix -

There is a marriage entry for EJB in St Helier Registry marriages, Nov 1889 to Jan 1893, page 3. There is a Louisa Elizabeth Chick on the same page.

Details on how to order certificates are at:

http://genuki.weald.org.uk/CHI/alex/CIResearch.html#faq4

Everything is correct except the price which is now £20 per certificate.

Let me know if you need anything on the children.

Stewart

Fantastic! Thanks very much.
This is the marriage I was looking for. Seems like the marriage of Louisa Elizabeth Chick to arthur Pearce is a red herring!

I'll have to look in the next few days. I don't actually have the indexes. I live near the Archive Centre in Jersey and pass it most days. The records are still paper!!

Hi Jane

There is an entry in the index for St Helier births for a Rosa Louise Beale, 1st Aug 1891 to 29th Dec 1892, page 42.
