The nearest name to Westrom would be Westerham...could it be that?

Hi

This sounds like "Westrum" - of which there is only a handful of people on census identified as having this as a pob. Which means it's probably a phonetic rendering of something else!
Found a number of references on websites to say that "Westerham" is locally pronounced "Westrum"

You will not find him on the 1841 census...That Census was took on the 6th June 1841 and he was convicted by then.

In Westerham Parish 1841 - 4 x  Elizabeth WOOD and number 3 seems most likely?
1)  b abt 1801, wife of William (and on 1851 too)
2) b abt 1816, wife of Joseph (maiden name might be RAY - in household with an older couple of that name) (and in 1851 with RAY people. but not husband).
3) b abt 1816,  Head, with a child age 6.
4) b abt 1834, child of of Mary Wood age 45 (who on 1851 is "Mary Jane Wood, and IGI records show her husband was Andrew WOOD)

1841: Westerham Town, Seven Oaks, Kent
HO107 / Piece 485 /  Book: 14 / Folio: 10 /  Page: 12
Elizabeth WOOD 25, Servantess, not born in Kent
Eliza WOOD 6, born in Kent.
They are alone in their dwelling - not with other family nor part of a household as a servant.

No Marion WOOD(S) in Westerham 1841. Marion is often rendered as Mary.....or Maria

5 x Mary WOOD in  Westerham (no WOODS) , two of them at age 25 and 6 are too young; 2 have/had husbands not named Thoimas, leaving only 1) as a possibility:
1) Age 65, Head with a William  age 40 (on 1851 too)
2) Mary Jane  age 45 - number 4) in list above - late husband was Andrew WOOD.
3) Age 40, wife of James WOOD (on 1851 too)
4) Age 25, apparent daughter of Andrew and Susan (too young) (probably related to 2).
5) Age 6, apparent daughter of John and Ann (too young)

1841: Parish of Westerham Town, Kent
HO107 /  Piece 485 /  Book: 14 / Folio: 27 /  Page: 16
Mary WOOD 65, b in Kent
William WOOD 40, Baker, b in Kent

1851: Parish of Westerham
HO107 /  Piece: 1613 /  Folio: 511 /  Page: 24
Head: Mary WOOD 75, widow b Edenbridge Kent
Son: William WOOD 51, Baker, b Whithiham?? Sussex

You say Thomas was born in Dawlish Devon? Mother Marion, Father Thomas, brother Thomas who all lived in "Westrom" at, I presume, the  time of Frederick's conviction.

I find the following IGI extracts ,and the Census interesting  - and wonder if the Dawlish part, relates to his mother not him - or else he might have been born Dawlish Devon, but christened Westerham Kent.....

IGI Parents: Thomas WOOD and Maria
IGI Issue - all christened in Westerham Kent:
Maria WOOD - 28 Jul 1816
Frederic WOOD - 13 Dec 1818
Thomas WOOD - 29 Apr 1821
Elizabeth Jane WOOD - 25 Jan 1824
John WOOD - 28 May 1826
Harriet WOOD  - 10 Aug 1828
Robert Jewell WOOD - 22 May 1831
Eliza WOOD - 28 Sep 1834

FreeBMD:
Robert Jewell WOOD died in 1837, registered SevenOaks Kent (Which covers Westerham)

It may be that the other son of the family, John died before 1841 too? Leaving only Frederick and Thomas as the two surviving brothers? So  explaining why you have reference to your Frederick with brother Thomas only?

1841: Westerham Town,  SevenOaks, Kent
HO107 /  Piece 485 /  Book: 14 /  Folio: 29 /  Page: 21
Thomas WOOD 45, Bricklayer J(ourneyman)
Thomas WOOD 20, Bricklayer J(ourneyman)
Maria WOOD 45, Not born in Kent
Harriot WOOD 12
Eliza WOOD 6
ALL born in Kent (except Maria)

1851: "The Chequers Inn" - Village of Southborough, Parish of Bromley, Kent
HO107 /  Piece: 1606 /  Folio: 113 / Page: 20
Head: Thomas WOOD 57, Licensed Victualler, b Westerham Kent
Wife: Maria WOOD 58, b Devonshire
Dau: Eliza WOOD 16, unm, At Home, b Westerham Kent
Lodger: Edward OBEY 48, unm, AG Lab, b Bromley Kent

1861: "The Chequers" - Parish of Bromley. Kent
RG9 /  Piece: 463 /  Folio: 123 /  Page: 10
Head: Maria WOOD 63, widow, b Dawlish Devon
Grandson: Thomas WOOD 7, Scholar, b Norwood Surrey
Servant: Elizabeth Mary TIPPEN 15, unm, House Servant, b Cudham, Kent
