Where is POMPREN?** COMPLETED**
« on: Thursday 16 July 09 18:59 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have a marriage certificate for my ancestors in 1867.  The brides residence is down as whats looks like  Pompren.  Does anyone know where this may be!   They married in the parish of Gwnws and the registration district is Tregaron.

I can't find Pompren anywhere on any maps.

Any clues as to this place would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Good old google - try

www.someplacenamesinsouthwales.4t.com/rich_text_19.html

pompren - Welsh dialect  'wooden bridge, foot bridge'

So it may not be a place as such

Linda

Added - try this

 http://www.rootschat.com/links/06pu/

and then zoom out
MOXHAM/MOXAM - Wiltshire & Surrey
SKEATS - Surrey
BRETT - Kent & County Durham
and
SWINBANK - anywhere

Hi Linda,

Great find!  That must be the place because I think I can see on the same section of map where the groom came from - Trefriw, but on the certificate it wasn't that clear - so you have found both places for me and also on the map is Gwnnws where they married.

Many thanks for taking the time to look for me.

Karen.
