Hi

If it is of any help 'White Bear Gardens' was off Kingsland Road.

A map 50 years earlier places it clearly

http://www.oldlondonmaps.com/horwoodpages/horwood06101.html

just north of St Leonard's Shoreditch where James William was baptised

JAMES WILLIAM KENDALL
Birth:  16 AUG 1854
Christening:  03 SEP 1854   Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London
Father:  JAMES KENDALL
Mother:  HANNAH

Hi

And the other marriage you were searching for

Marriages Mar 1863
BROWN  Thomas    Tunbridge  2a 552
GASSON  Emily     Tunbridge  2a 552
KENDALL  James William     Tunbridge  2a 552

missing female

Marriages Mar 1863
BONES  Mary     Tunbridge  2a _52

Only the twins were born after the marriage in Dorking - all the other children's births were before

Births Mar 1859
KENDALL  Henry    Dorking  2a 122
Births Jun 1860
KENDALL  George     Dorking  2a 118
Births Dec 1861
KENDALL  Frank     Dorking  2a 120
Deaths Sep 1862
Kendall  Frank     Dorking  2a 66
Births Mar 1863
KENDALL  Male     Dorking  2a 131
Deaths Mar 1863
Kendall  George     Dorking  2a 82
Kendall  Male     Dorking  2a 83

With Henry's birth registered in the March quarter of 1859 (which with up to 6 weeks to register the birth could mean a baby born in December 1858) Mary Bones and James William were likely to have started living together no later than 1858.

Thank you Valda,

It had not occurred to me to check for the marriage so long after their children were born!  (even though I had another Ancestor who had many children before she married their father!)  I did scour every possible site where I could find indexes and spent a great deal of time on it, to no avail.  Now I see why!!!!  Thanks for the link to the map!  What a great resource.  Streetmap... is great but is missing the old parts that don't exist any more.

Thank you so much for all the time you have given to me on this subject!

Kind regards,

Karen
