Does anyone know if there are any similar sites to RootsChat for USA queries? I am looking to follow up a family who emigrated to the US in 1871. A family contact found them in the 1880 census in Ohio, despite them having changed their surname - we have no idea why - but with no records left from the 1890 census, the trail has dried up. If there is a site which offered the sort of help I have received here, that would be very useful!

Lots of Americans use RC and are willing to help.  Put your request in the United States thread further down the page.

Thanks for that - I hadn't looked down beyond the English Counties. Must learn to look further before asking silly questions!
