That's a good idea Gaille.

In my case, I'd have to have a folder in My Documents or somewhere, because I use Thunderbird which, as far as I know, clears out e-mails when they reach a certain number - as I found to my cost when I transferred loads of Family History e-mails over from Outlook Express.

You can also find the topics you've started on a particular board by clicking on 'started by' which puts posters names in alphabetical order (stickied topics first in alpha order and then all the rest in alpha order).

That seems to be the best method, especially if you started a topic a couple of years ago.  The only problem I find is that I want to find a page with Rootschatters names starting with L and there doesn't seem to be a quick way of going to, the middle number of topics.  For instance if there are 168 pages of topics, you can click on pages 1, 2, 3 and then there are lots of ................ then 168, so the only way I can think to do it is click on Page 3, then I've got an option of clicking on pages 4-6 or similar, so I click on the last number and keep going like that until I get to the page with my name on.  Is there a way of just going straight to say page 57?

Lizzie

If I click on the board "Common Room", the link is
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,46.0.html
if I then click on page 2, the link in the address bar is
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,46.75.html
i.e Board 46, starting at message 75.

Ergo, multiply the page number (57) by 75 ( = 4275) and edit the '75' in the address to this number:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,46.4275.html
and this will take you to  ........  DA-DA-A-A .....  :-[  Ooops ! Page 58  :o

Try again: subtract 1 from the page number ( = 56) and multiply by 75 ( = 4200)  and edit the 46.xxx.html to 46.4200.html:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,46.4200.html
and this will take you to  ........  DA-DA-A-A-A    !!!  Page 57  !!!!  ;D

Thanks Bob - That seems fairly straightforward - so long as I get my maths correct ::)

Hi Bob

I take it you're not a computer programmer then?

First record starts at 0 not 1.

Thanks for this.  I don't think I'd ever have worked it out by myself!

Linda -

14 wasn't too bad - you can try it for my 199 if you've got a spare day  ;D ;D ;D

Mind you, I thought one of my threads was completed and it was duly moved to the completed Canada requests board but it's still going strong there - more cousins keep finding it and joining Roots  ;D ;D ;D

Yes, I am , over 35 years professionally (still at it !) and in private I also write websites  ;D

A large part of my job involves +/- 1 errors, caused by some arrays and records starting at 0
and others starting at 1, but I didn't want to bore everyone with the theory  ;D ;D
