Poorhouse Deaths
« on: Sunday 27 February 05 18:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me if there is a list of deaths for Dundee East Poorhouse after 1870.If someone died in the poorhouse where would they be buried,i wonderd if they had their own burial ground. Also how can i find out if a person died on the streets of Dundee, would he be listed as an unknown person in the newspapers and buried in an unmarked grave,if this is the case there should be a list of burials for unknowns in Dundee.Anne.

Anne, I'm afraid I can't answer your questions but would direct you to the burials dept at Dundee City Council, who are very helpful.
Tel: +44 (0) 1382 433089
Fax: +44 (0) 1382 433211
E-Mail: burials[at]dundeecity.gov.uk

Also, this link may be of use, if you haven't already seen this.

I have a lot of ancestors, who were not in the poorhouse but very poor, who are buried in common, unmarked graves in poorground in Eastern Cemetery, Dundee.  The Burials dept have a note of these, according to name and year of death but, of course, you cannot identify the individual grave.  I suspect it will be the same for your poorhouse and unknown people.
