VASS Duncan 1745

How feasable is it that Duncan Vass baptised in 1745 in Inverness could be from Nigg and what would be his father's occupation?
His father is given as David Vass , Officer.and the 3 winesses are Duncan Fraser of Achnagairn, Duincan Fraser son to provost Fraser and Duncan Clark merchant (Wils.?)
I ask this because there appears to be many Vass families from Nigg at about this time.
I am trying to connect Duncan Vass 1745 with my several times gr grandfather also Duncan Vass (c 1767 )who gives his place of birth as Inverness at his daughter's baptism in Newcastle in 1792.
