Where did you find out the information about the Barber link, is it on the census?

The 1901 census  - I gave the details earlier - had a daughter Mabel Barber aged 5
spidermonkey found a marriage in the index with both a Charles Newbon and Sarah Barber on the same page in 1899, and then I found a death for a Sarah Newbon at end on 1899.

But without certs it is pure speculation!

Certs can be ordered from www.gro.gov.co.uk at £7 each. Make sure you quote the ref number, and then only fill in the boxes with red stars!

Yes, looking at it, Sarah was married before she married Charles

Iguess that doesnt rule out the Sarah scenario. If she was Sarah Barbers when she married Newbon in 1899 (shed be about 3) then her mum dies and step dad looks after her till his very quick remarriage to Elizabeth Parr, then neither Charles nor Elozabeth, who then bring her up, would be natural parents, or even step parents, so "adopted" could well be the description given.
But we do not know if ths "extra" marriage is him or not as yet.

This is great by the way, I am getting further by talking to you guys than I have anywhere else.  And I've mentioned the name Archer to my Dad and he does remember mention of them so I'm going to search back to that and plan to order some of the marriage certs etc.

So he could have slotted in a brief marriage to a Barber between the mother of the eldest children and Elizabeth .. with her having a child from a previous marriage herself, whom he then took on ...

Cant see birth for your Albert at present, but here are the twins

Jul/aug/Sep 1897
Leicester 7a 142
Archibald William

Jul/Aug/Sep 1897
Leicester 7a 143
John Victor

A birth cert should give mum Elizabeth's maiden name

Just found out from my Dad that Archie suffered from shell shock in ww2 and we think died sometime in the late 1960s

Obviously, the following is based on huge assumptions (so treat with caution!), but on 1871, Rachael appears to have already been widowed:

New Buildings, Beeston, Notts
Rachel Archer  H  Wid  38  Charwoman  bn Notts Moorgreen
John Archer  son  14  Labourer at Skin (?) Yard  bn Notts Beeston
William Archer  son  11  Silk cleaner  bn Notts Basford
Frank Archer  son  8  bn Notts Basford
Ada Arcehr  dau  5  Scholar  bn Notts Beeston
Elizabeth Archer  dau  2  Scholar  bn Notts Beeston
George Archer  son  8mnths  bn Notts Beeston

Looking at the age of George, there was a limited time in which Mr Archer could have died (assuming George belonged to him etc etc), so I looked for deaths between 1870 and 1871.  There is this death:
Deaths Jun 1871  Archer  William  45  Basford  7b 69
which is interesting because there is this marriage:
Marriages Jun 1861 William Archer with Rachael Turner on the same page   Basford  7b 224

In 1861 Rachael Turner (aged 27, bn Greasley, Notts) is an inmate at Basford Workhouse with her son William Turner (aged 1, bn in Basford Union Workhouse) RG9; Piece: 2440; Folio: 44; Page: 10

That fits in with Elizabeth's rough birthdate, I found a date of 1868 on Free BMD
