Thanks for that, this makes sense as I seem to remember something in our local paper here about a family in Australia finding a letter from Alf Parr to the family of one of his soldiers who died in action.  I'd love to read that letter.  :)

Well Im one of their relatives, Charles Newbon is my great great grandfather. The family is spread out through out the world now, with some settling in Australia but most are still here in England

Thats my grandpa's letter to the newspaper :).
Its so amazing to find all these people that are either related to me or know of Alfred Parr.

Has anyone else realised that Alfred was a 2nd Lieutenant when he died but was a Sargeant when he wrote the letter? Does anyone know about the promotion?
