Not sure if this is your man but Brigg cemetery has:

Percy LAYNE, husband of M. L. LAYNE, died 16 January 1918, age 41. Mary L. LAYNE, wife, died 6th November 1959, and their son George C LAYNE, died 28th June 1973, age 70.

Just checked on the GRO death indexes for September quarter 1973:
George Cecil LAYNE, date of birth 23 July 1902; death registered in Scunthorpe district, vol 3b, page 885.

The Star index gives Percy's occupation as a leather merchant.
