Inquests - how to research?
« on: Friday 24 July 09 17:21 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I am not new to family research! But there is a new area I could do with advice / help on.

Two of my ancestors died in circumstances that warranted inquests.

One was in 1872 in Chapel Haddlesey, with the inquest being held by the "Coroner for the Honor of Pontefract".

The other was in 1889 in Bawtry, with the inquest being held by the "Coroner for Yorkshire".

Could someone please let me know how to get hold of a copy of these inquests?

Hi,

A lot of the records haven`t survived, but the ones that have are usually to be found in the County archives e.g. West Yorkshire Archives. It may be worth contacting them and asking.  Alternatively a good chance of finding an inquest report is usually in the newspapers of the time and many are online.

If you would like me to look for you post their names, but if you would rather keep it private then send me a PM.  (click on the green scroll at the left hand side of this message under the photo).

Kind regards,
