Birth look up - MCLEAN
« on: Sunday 26 July 09 00:42 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I would like to find the birth of Robert Mclean b app 1844 Clerkenwell, London. I have looked everywhere and the nearest I can find is this

Male Mclean b 1843 APR/MAY/June
Vol 1 page 304
Pancras
London

I know Roberts father was William and his mother was Elizabeth possibly Freeman but just want to confirm this.
Ive had no luck with his siblings either.
James Alex b1841 born St Marylebone London
Thomas      b1837        "       "                  "

Im just hoping some kind soul can tell me before I send away for the certificate if Im on the right track.

Many thanks

Hi Spring

thanks for your reply I do have this info thats where I got dates of births from. I would like to be able to buy birth certificate to be sure of Elizabeths maiden name.
I also have seen 1841 census but most of the children have gone by the 1851 census plus the father William has died, I do have his death cert.
Cant find them in 1861 census am going to have to trawl through the districts there are over 20.
On 1871 census Robert is married and has his own household.

Thanks once again for your reply

Janice

Janice, unfortunately it's not always possible be 100% sure of whether you're sending away for the right birth certificates.  When you apply for the certificate, if you get it from the GRO online, you can tick the box which says "Reference Checking", then you can enter the names of the parents.   Then if the certificate doesn't tally with what you entered, it won't be sent, and you'll have £4 of the £7 refunded.  If you apply to the office where the birth was registered for the certificate, you may not have to pay anything at all for a reference check.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

Hi All

Thanks for your replies, I will take your advice when I order James birth cert. from GRO so do not waste any more money. To think in the beginning before I joined this wonderful group of Rootschatters I was ordering certs from Ancestry at £20 a time.

I have come across this Duncan Bruce before but this family is nothing to do with my lot as far as I can see.

Thanks once again.
