The assay office mark (to the left of the 9 carat gold mark) is not that clear but it is obviously of one of the offices which are now closed. Could be Chester, Newcastle or Exeter given the three mark layout, but it's almost impossible to see, but I'm inclined to say Chester. The letter on the right would indicate the year, but I don't have those.

Yes, looking on Linda's info I'd say one of the older ones..
There's no date stamp ref picture though....

Hello Linda,
It's part of my Nicholls family search.
It belonged to, who I knew as, Old Lady/Ms Nicholls.

She told me the "belt" part was made from her "charges" lock/curls of hair. I don't know what you call children that you are "nanny" for

Victoriana style would tie in with her being well over 100yrs old in 1960's

Anyway, a date for this might give me a date for her being "nanny" and find her on census etc to see how she ties in with my family.

1885 looks good....

1885 would mean she would be about 25/35 yrs when it was made....
Is that old enough for a momento like this
