Finding Employers

When I watch Who Do You Think You Are I'm always intrigued that the celebrities manage to find employers.  How is this done?  I have census information with occupations listed on them, but don't know how I would find out exactly who they worked for.

I'm so glad you asked that Caroline- it's something that I've wondered too  ;D

Generations of my family worked on the buses in London,but this was before London Transport so how on earth will I ever find out who their employers were?
