Hi there - this is the same Elizabeth.

Census records for 1891 show the family living in Elphinstone, Tranent.

Still no sign of the name of Barr though?

Thanks gadget but I think I may have to put this down to wrong information given at the time.

I also have Elizabeth on the census records at 1881 and they were living in Lasswade at that time.

Thanks Gadget - it might Haddingtonshire or Elphinstone.

The address was Strawberry Row...........how quaint is that?  Elphinstone is not far from me, I think I will have to take a wee visit down there!

Was son William married in 1927? If so, it might be worth checking his wife's line for Barr.  I've come across cases where informants have used names of their spouses ancestors. He would be likely to be under a fair amount of stress at the time and gave the wrong surname.

Alternatively, Elizabeth Neilson might have married a second time to a Barr. Have you got a death cert for her?

It's the place where William and Elizabeth married that I can't work out - must be somewhere in Carnwath - given on the birth cert.

Hi Gadget

It is Carnwarth, County of Lanark.

Mmmm, never thought of Sophia Neilson maybe remarrying and that could be where the Barr comes in.  I might delve into that angle a bit more, but best get in the shower - this family tree business takes up so much of your time!  You come on for 10 minutes and an hour or two later you are still there!!  :D

Thank you so much for your help!
