New look layout na Ancestry
« on: Wednesday 29 July 09 22:47 BST (UK) »
Did a search on Ancestry
the search results were the same
The Census layout  (at least on 1841 and 1851) was totally different

Will take time to get used to this
Douglas, Varnden, Joy(i)ce Surrey, Clarke Northants/Hunts, Pullen Worcs/Herefords, Holmes Birmingham/USA/Canada/Australia, Jackson Cheshire/Yorkshire, Lomas Cheshire, Lee Yorkshire, Cocks Lancashire, Leah Cheshire, Cook Yorkshire, Catlow Lancashire

Just click 'maximise image' to get the old view.

I quite like it.

The description of the district is great and you can find out the exact enumeration district number - handy for searching on 1911census

It gave me a fright as it seemed to change mid search  ::)  My broadband connection is pretty unreliable in the far North and I thought something weird had happened until I noticed the maximise button  ;D

I suppose I'll get used to it as I have  got used to all the other adjustments!

Incidentally, does anyone know how to get rid of that awful 'Recent Member Connect Activity' on the home page. It suddenly appeared in the last few days and I like it not  :(

It will be the whizz kids in the marketing department.

Before I retired I was working for one of the mobile phone companies.  They were always introducing new features that about 5% of the customers (no doubt all under 25) would use.

But when it came to sorting out fundamental problems with the service......

What I noticed was a different screen when I clicked to open a census page.  That seemed much better and quicker than before.  Still had to use FindMyPast to find the person I wanted though, but as it was on the 1881 census, which FindMyPast have transcribed but don't have the census images available,  I then had to go back to Ancestry for full details.
