Sterling work, ladies and gentlemen  :)

We got the Howarth's back!

Why though are John and Elizabeth apart in 1871?

Jonathan

P.S. - Sorry to be a pain but we are on a roll here. Does the 1861 Census reveal anything more about Richard and Mary? (John's parents)

Hi,

1861
1 Spring Cottages, Whitworth

Richard Howarth, Head, M, 59, Cotton Loom Jobber, Haslingden
Mary, Wife, Mar, 55, Cotton Weaver, Rochdale
John, Son, U, 21, Cotton Warehouse Man, Spotland
William Mawson, Lodger, U, 48, Cotton Weaver, Spotland

By the way,  regarding John and Elizabeth living apart.  You have to remember that it was just one night in 10 years.  My guess is that Elizabeth was actually visiting her mother Mary.  Mary Whatmough was still living with Isaac Smith in the 1881 census and listed as Mother and Widowed.  I think the 1871 that said she was unmarried was perhaps a mistake as looking back she did indeed have a daughter Elizabeth of the correct age.

You are going to have to get the marriage certificate to be absolutely sure though.
