Understanding Parish Registers
« on: Thursday 30 July 09 09:00 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have traced my great great great great grandfather's birth certificate, Robert Young - it states that he was born to Robert Young, Labourer and his spouse Margaret Collin - I can't make out the next word, looks like "with" and the name John Kenneth Young.

I notice it has this in all the other entries, sometimes there are two names.  I was just wondering who are these people - are they the godparents?

Hi

It would probably be wits  meaning witness(es)  :)

The last letter would possibly be the long s that looks a little like an f

Quite common  on Scottish baptism entries.
