Dugdale family
« on: Monday 28 February 05 21:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

I have recently discovered that my g-grandmother was born of the IOM.  Her maiden name was Edith Louisa Dugdale.  I have identified her on the IOM 1881 & 91 censuses and know that she married in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs in 1903.  I don't know when she left the island though. I cannot trace her on 1901 census.

According to the census her father name was Thomas Dugdale and mothers name Christian Dugdale.

Any material anyone may have on this family would be greatly appreciated.  Also is there a searchable database for BMD's/parish records prior to 1878?

Have now found the Dugdale family on the 1901 census under the mis-spelling of Drydale.

I would now like to find when Thomas and Christian Dugdale marry.  It would have been sometime in the 1850's. She was born Ballaugh and he was born Andreas. I have no maiden name, which I would like or any parents yet.

If anyone knows anything or where I might find this info, I would be very grateful.

Hi

I found this on the IGI but the date of marriage is out - unless Thomas was a widower when he married Christian and Ann & Thomas were to his first wife.  There is a 10 year age gap between Thomas & Christian and as Ann is 11, Christian would only have been 16 when she had her - not impossible but I suspect a second marriage

Thank you Carole,

It is very kind of you to take the time to look, its all very interesting - I am particularly interested in her surname "Caine".  My dad always believed that his grandmother was somehow related to the famous Manx writer Hall Caine, but when he visited the island a few years ago a archivist at the Records Office told him rather off-handedly "Oh yes, most people with descendents from the IOM claim to have a link to him", so we dismissed it as family myth.

In view of this information I shall now keep an open mind and try to investigate further.

Thanks again, you are a Star ***

Regards
