George & Ruth HOCKIN

I am searching for my gt gt grandmother, Ruth (nee Veale) and her husband George Hockin. They married on 24th June 1873 in Tavistock, Devon, England and promptly disappeared, leaving my 6 year old gt grandmother with Ruth's parents.
It has been suggested that, as George was a copper miner, that they may have emigrated to Canada as many miners did when the mines in Cornwall & Devon ran out.
I have not been able to find either of them on British Cenuses or death registers.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this elusive pair please? Ruth was born in 1847 and George in 1837.
