Uniform photo help please
« on: Sunday 02 August 09 22:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,

This pic is probably my Grandfather. Can anyone tell me please what the uniform is and why it would have been taken in Dublin when he lived in Birmingham and we have no knowledge of him ever being in Dublin??

Thanks.

Ireland was part of Gt Britain til partition in 1922 and was garrisoned by British Army...the Easter Uprising happened in Dublin 1916.
Have you a name and a better scan of just the cap badge please?

Hi,  we realised the army was in Dublin about then -  just that my Grandfather never said he' d been to Dublin.

Anyway I have a second pic of the same chap, older in Civvies and that one has 'Bert 1910' on it so this must predate that.

It is probably Bertie Howard Wright Snr 1885 - 1953.

Badge is  2400dpi - best I can do.

Thanks for your help.

Do you know if he had Great War Service? If so do you have any medals they will have name and regiment on rims.
Surname W records arent online yet for ww1 service.

Sorry we haven't a clue about Great War Service. We have no medals or anything of that nature either.  These photos are literally all we have. In 1901 and in 1911 he was working as a Jeweller in Birmingham.

The cap looks strange? it could be a Broderick type issued 1902-1907 which would tie in with dates?
Am sure a pre 1914 expert will clarify  :)

Yes mate...A Broderick...But as for the cap badge...That is proving to be elusive!

Perhaps a search in WO97 for this chap would be of the greatest benefit!!
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
