I notice Horatio's wife was Elizabeth ('81 census). Are you getting them mixed up?  ???

I've just compared the two census results.
Apart from the obvious change in occupation of Ebenezer and a few slight spelling differences*, I would say that there are more than enough similarities to say that this is definitely the same family.

*probably transcription errors. Original docs can be viewed on ScotlandsPeople - my source was Ancestry.

Yes, m.s. means maiden surname.

Who registered the death?
It could be that whoever registered death made a mistake. Sometimes grandchildren registered deaths and were unsure of grandparents.

Also possible Mary Agnew died and then Ebenezer re-married Elizabeth Black? or was 'living in sin' with her?  ???

I really need to rush now but will look back in later.
