Albion Cottages, Gainsborough

Hi,
My relatives lived at 9 Albion Cottages, Gainsborough in 1935 according to the All Saints Parish Church Baptism Register.  Does anyone know where they were, please?

Off hand i couldn't say but it's quite possible they could have stood around the Caskgate Street/Ropery Road area.

Rose Packaging had a factory on Ropery Road not far from Caskgate Street known as the Albion Works and Roses'/Red Hall canteen stood on Caskgate Street.

Much of Caskgate Street was demolished , only a handful of the pre 1960 buildings remain, the area used as the site of the Guildhall and car parks.

If you visit the group and search under Albion, Caskgate and Elswitha Hall there are several "then and now" type images you can see but none specifically mention Albion Cottages.

It might be worth trying to contact Gainsborough Heritage too, several of the Gainsborough images (now around 1200) have been added by the chap who runs the company and there has been a lot of research into the town to produce books and assorted publications relating to Gainsborough.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you.  My relatives then moved to Pinchbeck Buildings also off Spital Terrace and it is listed on the same web site.

Sent me down 'Memory Lane'....I was born at 12A Spital Terrace Gainsborough and within a few weeks moved over the road to 13 Spital Terrace...........left there in 1948.
Only visited the area once since, when Number 13 was being made into flats !!!
My Dad was a member of the St John  Ambulance!!

In fact Gainsborough Heritage are based in the old Post Office buildings, which happen to be on the corner of Spital Terrace and straight opposite the Methodist Church built in the 1960's( possibly slightly earlier). My grandad worked as a foreman during the church construction.

In the discussion board of the Gainsborough group there is a thread "who was Fanny Craven", the question coming about due to the Fanny Craven Hall situated on Spital Terrace and featured in both old and recent images within the group. The answers largely came about as a result of a census request i posted here on Roots and a good nose around the 1930 Kelly's.

It's a shame there aren't more groups within Flickr like the Gainsborough group, many a family/local history query comes up within the group and some people photos have had names given to what had been unknown faces.
