Hannah Harriet Hodgetts b.1861 Dudley
« on: Tuesday 01 March 05 16:25 GMT (UK) »
Hannah married my g.grandfather Alfred Ensor 2 Dec 1882 St Michael Rushall Staffs.  On the Marriage cert. she named her father Stephen, a forge manager. On the various census, her  place of birth is Dudley, Worcs. and Gabbs/Gritts? Green Dudley.  One birth cert. I enquired of, didn't have a father registered.  Does anyone have any suggestions that could help?  I am tearing my hair out!

Hi Skylark

Is there an address for her on the marriage certificate?  Names of the witnesses?  These might just help somebody help you to locate her.

Best wishes

On the marriage cert. Both Hannah and Alfred state their residence as Rushall.  I know that Alfred was living, and working in Stonnall at the time.

The witnesses were John Garbett - he did live in Rushall
                        and   Ellen Brown

1881 census - Ann Harriet Hodgetts was a lodger age 19 (no birth place was given)  with
                       John Parr, 38, b. Lichfield
                       Elizabeth Parr,42, b.Corven,Merioneth
+ daughters and sons b. Shenstone

all living at Carters Field Lane, Shenstone.

I hope this additional info. will help.

There are lines drawn through the word Gadds/Gritts Green Worcestershire, on the census.

I suppose it could also be Greets Green, the local pronunciation sounds a bit like Gritts! although this isn't in Worcestershire.
