Hi Barbara
1841 census, I think Jane Byers age 30 was in Whitby with son Thomas age 2.  I wonder why?  I cannot make out what is written in the trade or profession column.

I think her age (59) is incorrect in 1851, I found a birth, IGI Jane Seaton christened 24 November 1810, Loftus, which fits.  She would have been 39, 1851.

Also IGI found a Robert Byers Seaton born 1835 Guisborough - this could be the Robert Byers age 4 with Robert Seaton in Margrove Park Skelton 1841 census.

Hi Margaret,

I didn't realise you had access to the census, thought you were just looking at the index which is why I gave full details for the other census!

They're in Hinderwell.  Jane's occupation says Ind - meaning independent, of independent means
Maybe the Huttons were related and they were on holiday or just visiting.
IGI has a marriage for Richard Hutton to Patience Smales so no obvious link

Hi Barbara

Normally I do only have access to the census index, however, while filing some papers I came across an old voucher for 1901censusonline.   Wasn't sure if it had expired - or even where I got it, so I tried it and it worked!  We moved house two years ago and many things are only now coming to light!!

When checking the index I usually try  findmy past  and double check on  1901online  but I find the 1901online  is not at all reliable.  More often I find who I am looking for on FindMyPast whereas 1901online index so often tells me "not found".

So,  many thanks for all the data you have provided me with - I really didn't realise I had this voucher - it must be from when 1901 first came out and there were so many problems I gave it up as a bad job.

Jane Byers - many thanks, the image I saw didn't say where they were.  I found Jane and Thomas on the FindMyPast index which said Whitby - then armed with that info went to 1901online.

I seem to recall seeing Hinderwell mentioned in this research somewhere will have another look at it.

Thank you again for all you help

Regards
Margaret

Many thanks Barbara.  I may be without a computer for a day or two, just had new motherboard and power point - now hard drive is almost full!!  Technician had a problem installing new one so it needs to go to the "shop" tomorrow.

Will certainly ask should I need further assistance with my research.  Many thanks for the offer.
