Local knowledge required
« on: Friday 07 August 09 22:02 BST (UK) »
I have a Richard Sterne married to a Margaret Bickford in 1845. There are 2 Richard's in Griffiths:-

Sterne   Richard   Ballycanew   Ballycanew   Wexford
Sterne   Richard   Mounthoward Lower   Monamolin   Wexford

I have both of the deaths but where would these Richard's be buried?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard

The grave yard in Ballycanew is the Church Of Ireland Graveyard, it was the only graveyard in the area and Church of Ireland and Catholics were buried there.

In Monamolin the church of Ireland was build around 1820 so they might have some records

Catholics from Ballycanew also buried in Ballyoughter Graveyard.  The parish priest in  St Molings Ballycanew will have these records as he runs both parishes

Toombe/Toome is a small graveyard outside Gorey.  It is set in a field and could be easily missed but is marked by a granite stone on the roadside.
Records for the parish exist from the mid 1700s so it might be worth checking for your Sterne family.
I notice there are a few Sterne families mentioned in the new website - www.irishgenealogy.ie

Cheers
