Hi Nelliedee!
I have been following your Henry Hanbury journey and thought this might be of interest to you!
Derby Mercury report on Wed 12th 1859
Ashby de la Zouch Petty Sessions-Jan 8th 1859
Caution To Miners
Henry Hanbury and 5 other miners, all from Swanwick, were brought up on warrants on Tues 4th Jan
charged by the colliery agent for unlawfully absenting themselves without consent on Sat 1st Jan.
The men leaft work at 12noon, causing considerable inconvenience. The men refused to return to work when
requested. The magistrate ordered men to return to work after giving them some 'wholesome advice as to future
proceedings', and to pay costs.
Could this be a relative?
Regards
Alyson

Swanwick News May 2nd 1900
Vestry meeting held on Mon Eve. at St Andrews church. Accounts examined and found satisfactory.

All that farm, farmhouse & premises situate in Ashover in the occupation of Mrs Sarah Hanbury and containing
48 acres, 2roods and 11perch more or less.
(The context suggests that Sarah was tenant and the landowner was selling this property as part of his estate)

Alfreton Brewster Sessions Wed 13th Sept 1871
Following applications for new licences that were refused.
Elizabeth Hanbury, Swanwick applied to sell beer on the premises.(does'nt say which premises!)
Hope all this does'nt confuse your research to date!!

Hi alyson 123

What a brilliant find! and thank you so much for taking the trouble to let me know.

It could very well be one of 'my' Han(d)burys - I'll check the dates through and confirm which one. The trouble is they seemed to like the name Henry and there were Henrys in all branches of the family in all generations! I suppose it saved thinking up names! 'My' branch had a father and 4 sons working at the colliery - all appearing to be blacksmiths so it sounds very promising.

Thanks again
