William henry craig, elizabeth
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 01:41 BST (UK) »
got a vague one here...
Im after a Captain William Henry Craig (Royal Navy), who had a daughter Elizabeth born c1811 ..

I dont know when or where William was born, but his daughter, married John Jardine of Spedlins Tower Applegirth (he was one of baronet Alexanders sons)

LDS hasnt helped me much, that has John Jardine being born both in scotland and in australia (where john and elizaebth moved to in 1840)

It even has on one result, Elizabeths father being William Henry Jardine! lol

so Im trying to find Johns wife, or wives? maybe he was married before Elizabeth?

"JARDINE, JOHN (1807-1874), pastoralist and magistrate, was born on 5 March 1807 at Spedlins Tower, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, the fourth son of Sir Alexander Jardine and his wife Jane, née Maule. He joined the 1st Regiment of Dragoons in 1835, married Elizabeth, daughter of Captain W. H. Craig, R.N., sold his commission as captain on 10 May 1839 and sailed with his wife for Sydney. They arrived (Australia) in the Dryade on 3 January 1840 "

Anyone help?

Hi

A quick look at the Archives site shows a Naval Service Record for a William Henry CRAIG.  The brief amount of info given on the page shows his birthplace as being Devon.

This may be your man and you can download his service record for a couple of pounds... says that there are 6 pages in all but how many belong to him I cannot tell.

Cheers

Keen to know if anyone has researched William Henry Craig any further.  I particularly want to know if the name Ensleigh (or similiar spelling) crops up in this family.   Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.  thank you
