1918 York Electroral Rolls Completed
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi, has anyone got access to the York 1918 Electoral Rolls. I am trying to find John Charles Reed born York 13-09-1864. I am hoping it might show what regiment he was in.
Regards David.

Hi,

Is this the John Charles Reed that was married to Sarah Ellen Naylor on 21st January, 1888?
Children:
Florence born Aldershot 12/10/1889
Charles, 10/5/1891
Emily, 13/7/1892
Harry 20/9/1894
Caroline 18/6/1897
Ellen, 14/3/1899

If so his pension records are on Ancestry.   ;D

It looks like he rejoined from the Army (TF) to Royal Air Force on 29th July 1916
No. 409589  . Tranferred to the Air Force Reserve on 12th March, 1919.  There won`t be a medal card for him as he didn`t serve abroad.

However, if this is the correct man then his death certificate is on there dated 25th December, 1946.  Cocoa Works Labourer.  I can forward it if it is the same man.

Was his father Ruben?  There are prior records relating to his Army service in the 19th and 13th Hussars - Enlisted on the 16th June, 1884.  Pointless going into detail if I have the wrong man, but I will forward them if it is correct.

Regards,
Mo

Hi Mo, many thanks this is the right man. Please send any information you have. John Charles Reed was my Great Grandfather and Ruben  Reed was my Great Great Grandfather. I have attached a photograph showing John Charles in uniform. Someone else thought he was in the Hussars as the cap he is wearing has a chin strap.
Thanks again. David.

Hi David,

There are 14 pages  :o  but some with just a one liner.  If you want me to just post the relevant bits I will type them up.  If you would prefer to see the actual images send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will forward them to you.

Regards,
Mo
