They would be on the GRO index (Freebmd site) and eliminate 'extra spouses' by census entries.

William TOMKINS full age, bachelor, cordwainer of Kettering, his father Francis a cordwainer
to
Mary SPENCE full age, spinster, father James a weaver
26 Aug 1845 in Kettering parish church (from the BT's)
